The Perfect Flowers

The wedding is right around the corner and it is time to make some major decisions. One of the biggest choices is what flower arrangements you will use for your big day. I have always known that I wanted the combination of red roses and lime green cymbidium orchids.

Our ceremony is going to be outside with a beautiful view of mountains and a golf course.  At the ceremony site there is a gazebo and a cement ground. The chairs we are using are white and they will have red rose and lime green orchid arrangements at the corner of the chairs bordering the aisle. The walk way will be a white carpet covered in red rose petals.

As for the reception I love the look of submerged flowers. For all of the main tables I have decided to go with 20-inch tall vases filled with 2 calla lilies and a little river rock at the bottom. As for the head table, which I have about 5 tables combined for I plan on submerged lime green orchids again with a little river rock at the bottom, sticking to the same vases and theme. All of these centerpieces are placed on a mirror and surrounded by votive candles. The tables are going to have a white table covering and then a square black sheet under the mirror and centerpiece. The chair coverings are white with black bows.

Just About 2 months Away!!!

Wow - I cannot believe how fast time has gone by. My wedding is two months away and I cannot believe the big day is almost here! I recently sat down and made a checklist of all the tasks that are left. To my surprise there are only 30 things on my list. But all 30 things are going to take time and have to be done soon!

One of the tasks that are coming right up is my first dress fitting! I bought my dress about a year ago and I have not tried it on in a while. I will say that I have lost 5 lbs and at least 3 inches in my waist :) I have been working really hard and trying to eat healthy and I am finally seeing some results. Along with my dress fitting I need to pick out the lingerie I am going to be wearing the day of the wedding.

I am still working on the flower designs and I still need to sep up an appointment with my florist to do the final mockups before the big day. I also need to get my bridesmaids gifts and set an appointment to have the gifts made.

My fiancé still has to pick out his tux and be fitted for it. Also all of his groomsmen still need to be fitted and all of the fathers as well!

These are just a few of things right off the top of my head. I will keep you posted as I get more accomplished.

Food Tasting

pineapple_bbq-4 Let me tell you being a bride is hard work! One of the duties my fiancé and I are in charge of is choosing the food for the reception. My fiancé and I decided to do a plated dinner for all of the guests. The salad was the first thing we had to taste.

We tasted 3 different salads to decide which would be the best choice. The first salad was a spinach salad with vinaigrette, hazelnuts and blue cheese. The second salad was a regular garden salad with vinaigrette and the third salad was spinach with craisins, red onion, slivered almonds and vinaigrette. The minute my fiancé and I tasted the last salad we both agreed it was the best choice by far!

For the main entre there were a couple dishes we tried to decide which ones to go with. We want our guests to have the choice of a chicken dish vs. a steak/pork dish. We tried two types of chicken dishes. The first dish was sweet chili chicken with pineapple and the second dish was teriyaki chicken with mango. Again after the first bite of the sweet chili chicken with pineapple we knew that was our first choice for the chicken dish.

As for the steak/pork dish we had two choices. The first choice was steak served with as a duet plate with salmon. The second choice was a pork dish, which is only served with pork no other combination. After tasting the steak dish we both knew again that it was by far the best choice.

Our Final menu:

Spinach salad with craisins, red onion, slivered almonds and vinaigrette

Your choice of:

Sweet Chili Chicken with Pineapple served over white rice and grilled asparagus

Or

Steak and Blackened Salmon duet plate served over mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus

Yummy!

Choosing The Cake

blkandwhitecake The wedding is getting closer and closer - 2 months and 14 days to be exact…not like I am counting down or anything :) Last weekend we did are cake tasting and are cake is going to be so good! Sometimes my fiancé and I agree on things right away and sometimes we completely disagree. Well this was one of those lucky times where we both agreed 100% on the flavors we wanted.

The cake flavors we ended up choosing are Pink Champaign with Strawberry filling, Banana with Hazelnut filling, Chocolate with chocolate cream filling and Carrot with cream cheese filling. These were the first four flavors that we tried and we fell in love with all of them!

When you are preparing to go cake tasting have your favorite flavors in mind. That way when you get there you can tell them exactly what you want to taste. My fiancé and I knew exactly what we wanted to taste and that made the cake tasting process that much easier.

After you know what flavors you have to decide which style of cake you would like. There are many different styles to choose from all the way from square to round and anything in between. You also need to know how many guests you will be serving. This will determine the number of layers of cake you will need.

Next comes the design of the cake. I always like it when brides incorporate their wedding colors with their cake. We are having a black and white wedding so are cake is going to be white with black ribbon around it. Also we are having red roses and lime green orchids, as are flowers so they will be on the cake as well.

Remember to have fun and enjoy your cake tasting experience! I know for me it was one of the last cheat days I can have until the wedding!
